Characteristics and shielding principles of aluminum foil tape

2025-08-18

Aluminum foil tape has the property of isolating electromagnetic waves and is widely used in industries such as refrigerators, air conditioners, automobiles, petrochemicals, bridges, hotels, and electronics. The shielding principles of aluminum foil tape are described as follows:

Aluminum foil tape

1. Reflection loss caused by impedance mismatch on the shielding surface.

2. Transmission loss or absorption loss caused by electromagnetic energy absorption when electromagnetic waves propagate within the shielding material.

3. Multiple reflection loss caused by multiple reflections between the inner walls of the shielding material. These factors highlight the three fundamental factors that influence a material's shielding effectiveness: its electrical conductivity, magnetic permeability, and thickness. These are also key areas of focus and breakthroughs in shielding material research.

For electromagnetic shielding structures, their shielding effectiveness is also dependent on their structure, shape, and airtightness. For specific issues, we also need to consider the frequency of the electromagnetic waves being shielded and the nature of the source.

Because aluminum foil is metal, it is conductive. Through the above shielding principle, we know why it is suitable for various electronic products that require electromagnetic shielding, such as various transformers, mobile phones, computers, PDAs, POPs, LED displays, laptops, copiers, etc.
