Tape is composed of two parts: base material and adhesive. It connects two or more unconnected objects together through bonding. A layer of adhesive is coated on its surface. According to the base material: it can be divided into BOPP tape, cloth-based tape, kraft paper tape, masking tape, fiber tape, PVC tape, PE foam tape, etc. According to the adhesiveness: single-sided tape and double-sided tape. So, what is fiber tape?
The backing material of fiber tape is a composite material reinforced with fiber filaments. Depending on the fiber filaments, it can have different performances, usually used to enhance dimensional stability and tensile strength. Fiber tape uses high-strength glass fiber yarn or cloth as reinforcing material, PET film (OPP film) as base material, and specially configured high-performance pressure-sensitive synthetic rubber as adhesive, and is made by process treatment and coating. So, what performance advantages will the fiber tape have after being reinforced with fiber filaments?
After using fiber filaments, the tape also brings another unique advantage: anti-notch. In life, we often encounter the following situation: the cling film cannot be torn, we just need to cut a small hole, and we can easily tear it all the way. The tape on the express box is difficult to pull open even if you use all your strength, but as long as you cut a notch, you can pull up a large piece in one go. This characteristic is the stress concentration phenomenon in polymer materials, which is concentrated in that when there is a notch on the surface of the material, the strength of the material itself will be greatly reduced.
However, the fiber tape is not like this. If we take it out and take a closer look, we will find that the evenly arranged independent fiber filaments make each fiber contribute its own strength independently when it is stressed, basically cutting off a part of the fiber filaments, and the remaining fiber filaments will not be concentratedly damaged. In this way, the fiber tape has significant performance advantages in packaging, bundling and fixing. Especially for the bundling of sharp metal materials, anti-theft, and anti-destruction of packaging.
Of course, if we observe carefully, we will find that the fiber filaments of the fiber tape products on the market are arranged in different densities. Some are obviously sparse, and some are very dense. Obviously, the arrangement density of the fiber filaments has a decisive influence on the tensile strength of the fiber tape, and the two have a nearly linear fitting relationship. It is worth noting that we cannot simply determine the quality of a fiber tape product by the density of the fiber filaments, but should analyze it specifically according to the actual application needs.
Therefore, everyone can completely choose products with appropriate fiber density according to the needs of actual applications and the requirements for cost. At the same time, we can also find that the arrangement direction of the fiber filaments is not fixed, and different arrangements can also bring better results. For example, interwoven mesh fiber tape will have higher strength and is made into double-sided glass fiber mesh tape, which is widely used in the construction industry, such as the pasting of door and window sealing strips.
