Performance and test methods of electrical tape

2024-07-25

Electrical tape has good insulation pressure resistance, flame retardancy, weather resistance and other characteristics, and is suitable for wire connection, electrical insulation protection and other characteristics.

The test method of electrical tape is as follows:

1. Viscosity inspection: Viscosity refers to the ability of the tape to adhere to the surface of the object to be adhered. For the viscosity of electrical tape, it is measured by the viscosity of the standard steel plate. The test method is ASTM D-1000.

2. Flame retardancy: that is, the ability of the tape to prevent continued burning. UL510 is specifically used for performance testing of electrical insulation tapes, and flame retardancy is one of the important test items. The test sample is to wrap the specified length of tape in a spiral shape with half overlap around a 1/8-inch diameter steel rod, and attach a display to the top. The flame of the burner is at an angle of 20 degrees to the steel rod. After approaching the flame for 5 times (15 seconds each time), the burning time of the sample should not exceed 60 seconds in total or the damage to the display should not exceed one quarter. The UL510 flame test is a pass or fail test. Electrical tapes that are UL approved or listed and have the "flame retardant" mark have passed this test and the UL follow-up service audit test.

3. Voltage Withstand Test: Voltage withstand test refers to the test of the voltage withstand capability of various electrical devices, insulating materials and insulating structures. The process of applying high voltage to insulating materials or insulating structures without destroying the performance of insulating materials is called voltage withstand test. Its main purpose is to check the ability of insulation to withstand working voltage or overvoltage, and then to check whether the insulation performance of product equipment meets safety standards.
