So, how can we distinguish good from bad masking tape by appearance when purchasing it? Here are some methods:
1. In comparison, masking tape with less adhesive and impurities will have a darker overall color and higher light transmittance when stretched.
2. Masking tape containing impurities will have many irregularly distributed white dots that do not disperse when pressed, unlike air bubbles.
3. Good quality masking tape uses a soft-scrape transfer application method, eliminating the possibility of lines (incomplete or missing ink printing on printed tape is related to the printing press).
4. The color of a roll of good quality masking tape is very similar to the color of each subsequent roll because of its strong opacity, preventing color overlap.
5. Examine the surface of the masking tape. Freshly slit masking tape often contains air bubbles, which will mostly dissipate after about a week. Pure varnished masking tape has a smooth surface without any white spots.
